A recent interior design project undertaken by the London based practice of Alexander Waterworth Interiors is Hally’s, a charming deli/restaurant located on the New King’s Road in Parson’s Green, a chic residential area of London, just north of the Thames.
Inspired by the period owner Anna Halliday spent in South Africa, the concept of a casual day time salad bar which transforms into an evening dining destination, serving dishes created from fresh seasonal produce from carefully selected sources. This guided the designers to create a bright clean interior in line with the South African feel of the space, as interpreted through their innovative design aesthetic.
An effusion of natural and reclaimed materials have been incorporated into the design, from the floorboards to the white sawn timber boards which face the room at the rear of the space, giving the sense of a garden hideaway. The wonderfully contrasting materials of the bar, limed scaffold boards with a counter top of carrara marble, provides an ideal lunchtime seating space. The exposed brick walls are painted white to soften their harshness and blend with the sense of charming rusticity enhanced by the wall shelves holding a variety of vintage nostalgia, pots of aromatic herbs and flowers. A further element of soft colour are the bentwood type chairs, dip dyed in springtime pastel shades. An emotive interior of country garden nostalgia together with a contemporary urban vibe and a warm welcoming space which opens up for al fresco dining on warm summer days. An interior design project which perfectly defines the identity of the establishment as an eco-sensitive eatery located in a high end area of London.
