The out of the ordinary Chinese restaurant, David’s in Melbourne, Australia was opened in 1999 by David Zhou. Since then, it has earned the reputation for serving a brand of food which David terms as ‘country Shanghai comfort food’. The interior of the well-known restaurant has recently undergone a radical makeover by interior designer Hecker Guthrie, who has done his utmost to create the homely environment which this exceptional cuisine deserves.
The reclaimed bleached wood of the cupboards and shelves are piled against the white walls creating a contemporary take on a country kitchen style. An eclectic mix of pretty blue and white china bowls on the simple tables and dark glass bottles together with distressed metal vats form the main decorative elements. The paper lanterns with black metal frames hang from the ceiling and glass paned dividers ensure that natural daylight enters the space.
A touch of industrial combined with natural materials result in a cool urban ambience for this relaxed friendly Chinese eatery.
