In a generous space of 860 sq.m. in downtown Kiev, Ukraine, the practice of Yunakov Architects designed the interior of the newly opened Beton Restaurant. Following the current trends and the increasing popularity of concrete, not only for its durability as a building material but also as a design element, this material features strongly together with rusted metal and glass, providing a decidedly industrial feel to the Loft like space.
The large interior was made more manageable and customer friendly by its division into four distinct spaces as a general restaurant with bar, a vip room, a children’s room and a lively karaoke/hookah room, each one awarded its own identity, while being integrated within the color coordinated design concept as a whole. The bar itself is a signature piece, made of concrete and rusty metal, its strip illumination is a theme which is repeated throughout the spaces. The abstract angular wall mounted wooden frames and cellular ceiling facing distract from the coldness of the raw concrete.
An interesting design feature is the wall of wooden blocks in the karaoke room which doubles as a functional feature as additional sound proofing of the space. The ultra-cool entrance to the restaurant is lined with rusty metal signs interspersed with specially designed concrete surfaces and the bathrooms are hidden from the lobby space by a rusty curtain. Glass partitions throughout are printed with the design plans of the interior. A number of really unique design options have been incorporated into this smart urban destination, which on the whole, sums up the general design aesthetics of the day.
