Casa na Mata (Jungle House) by Marcio Kogan’s Studio MK27 is located on the edge of the Brazilian rain forest, on a block of land surrounded by dense vegetation. The objective of the project was to optimise the connection between architecture and nature, maximising the privileged view across the ocean, while harnessing the spectacular sunlight within the internal spaces.

Giuliano Andrea Grape among young Italian architects emerges for its original personality. In 1973 Ricardo Bofill discovered a cement factory, an industrial complex from the turn of the century, comprising over thirty silos, underground galleries and huge engine rooms. The factory, abandoned and partially in ruins, was a compendium of industrial forms that could be interpreted as brutalist, romantic, surreal …

The designation by the National Park Service recognises the house's historical and architectural significance, joining a list of monuments deemed worthy of preservation. Completed in 1973, the home was commissioned by the Douglases after they contacted Meier to buy the blueprints for his earlier Smith House in Connecticut.
