With its grand bones and patrician façade, this 1848 Gramercy Park townhouse presented exciting challenges for the new generation of the Isaly family. Previous conversions had left one large triplex crowned by three loft-like residences.

How could one revive vernacular architecture in such an exceptional setting as Imerovigli, Santorini, with its view of the Caldera, opposite the Skaros rock? Generally rooms to rent at the Caldera simulate the vernacular by cloning indefinitely vaulted roofs.

This 125sq.m. apartment is situated in a former industrial building on Meg. Alexandrou Street in Kerameikos. The 5 storey building, built in the 80s, originally housed a factory and is located in an area which has retained its strong industrial presence.

A cellar that’s as much a conversation piece as the wine it stores – 400 bottles of luxury cuvee wines are contained in a 3m x 6m cement block, extruded from the shop into the public space. The focus: the dramatic angular tunnel and its top-rate gems.
