In the Lumen series the topic of investigation is light itself. It is a lifetime project in which various aspects of light are explored in several bodies of work. Michael’s aim is to let light reveal itself. Luminescence, primarily investigates light using electroluminescent (EL) wire.

Last month saw the opening of the very first museum dedicated to the entire artistic output of René Lalique (1860-1945), jeweller and glass maker. In his early career as a designer, he produced jewellery designs for famous houses such as Cartier and Boucheron.

21_21 Design Sight is pleased to announce a new exhibition, Irving Penn and Issey Miyake: Visual Dialogue opening to the public on September 16, 2011. The exhibition will focus on the collaborative work of legendary photographer, Irving Penn and renowned designer, Issey Miyake.

Erwin Blumenfeld (1897 – 1969) was a famous American photographer of German origin. In the 1930s, he published collages mocking Adolf Hitler. In 1936, he emigrated to Paris. With the German occupation, he was interned in a concentration camp in 1940 because he was Jewish.

Ruud van Empel (1958) is one of the most extraordinary photographic artists of this moment, both nationally and internationally. From hundred of fragments adopted from digital photos, he compiles new images that seem very life-like and realistic, but also conjure up a world that has never existed.

From 16 October 2011 to 4 March 2012, the Groninger Museum will present the exhibition entitled Studio Job & the Groninger Museum. The exhibition displays the world-famous designs of Studio Job, which consists of Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel.

The thing about these guys is that they are so modern. And by modern, I mean contemporary. And by contemporary, I mean recognisable as belonging to the ‘now’. Take for instance, the very first piece presented in this exhibition ‘The Rock Drill’ by Jacob Epstein.
