I’ve many heroes: from Fellini to Gandhi, from Majakovskji to Che Guevara, from Sottsass to my old doorman (a very simple uneducated lady); the world is full of good examples to follow. Sir Isaac Newton once said: "If I have seen further it was only by standing on the shoulders of giants".

This fantastic underground residence, set amongst a group of mountain homes in the Swiss village of Vals, is certainly their equal in terms of spectacular mountain views and comfort. Designed by the Dutch firm SeArch in collaboration with Christian Muller Architects, 

When designing the Ridge Road Residence, architects, Studio Four had to incorporate two features into their project, that the single tree on the plot, a tea
tree, be incorporated into the plan and the private and public spaces of the home be totally separate.

A simple traditional house on the island of Formentera in Spain was transformed into villa status by architects Maria Castello Martinez and Daniel Redolat. The Can Manuel D’en Corda is a stone built residence in the locally established style of the region since the 18th century.

The planks of recycled wood on the facade of the single family structure in the ski resort of Kitzbuehel in the Austrian Alps give the impression of an average rural dwelling, on closer look however, it is apparent that this is an exceptional example of contemporary architecture in a traditional rural setting.

This beautifully simple beachside house is a perfect example of how building with a limited budget need not lead to a compromise in terms of aesthetics. Designed by Santiago based architects, 01ARQ, the house is situated on a remote plot by the sea near the town of Huentelauquen in Chile.

Located in the popular seaside resort of Ixtapa, Zihuatenejo in Mexico, Finestre Villas is a complex of 8 luxury villas designed by CC Arquitectos. The simple
geometric shapes follow the topography of the 9.700sq.m. site.
