Toorak2 House Renovation|Robson Rak

Recently renovated by Robson Rak, The Toorak2 House is an existing 1983 mock-Georgian home. The client entertained the idea of building a new home on the site, but decided to give the designers the challenge of inserting a new interior into the existing building.

FGR Architects’|Contemporary Melbourne marvel

FGR Architects virtually created an entirely new house behind the period facade. The contemporary ‘addition’ includes generous glazing at both the ground and first floors to take advantage of the garden aspect and generous light. Pivotal to the design is a lap pool and the double height canopy that soars to 6.5 m in height.

A modest 1930s facade in Melbourne's inner city suburb Northcote conceals a breathtaking contemporary design.
Past the front door, only a couple of the original front rooms remain; one used for a study, the other a guest bedroom. 'The house fits in with the period streetscape. You’re not r...

Lamble Residence|Smart design studio

This house on the south coast of New South Wales was designed as one of a pair of modern beach houses, occupying a greenfield site overlooking beautiful Gerringong Beach. The form of the building is simple – a timber driftwood box with a crisp white roof floating overhead.

Mlzd |Einfamilienwohnhaus Ipsach

MLZD was asked to design the house for a couple – the same clients as for one of the Swiss architecture studio's first projects, back in 2000. They wanted a bigger house to accommodate their growing family.
The clients picked a spot on the south-east side of Lake Biel, also known as Lake Bienne, on the outskirts of rural village Ipsach.

The glazed lower level of this house by Switzerland's Lake Biel are sandwiched between two concrete slabs, helping to protect living spaces and an outdoor terrace from flooding.

MLZD was asked to design the house for a couple – the same clients as for one of the Swiss architecture studio'...

Desert Courtyard House|Wendell Burnette Architects

Stationed in the Sonoran desert of Arizona is the brawny Desert Courtyard House. Designed by Wendell Burnette Architects, Desert Courtyard House is a magnificent home with a tough exterior suitable for the harsh environment.

As Ocotillos march across a private drive that descends a ridge following a natural wash, this project’s form emerges amidst towering Saguaros and geological outcroppings as the depth and complexity of the desert floor is revealed. Constructed from soil excavated from the site, the house is a m...
