The recently opened restaurant, +green, is in a residential area of Tokyo, Japan, close to Komazawa Park, a popular place for picnickers. More than just a modern organic restaurant, it is also a health food store and has a take away section. Designed by Chikaro Ohno of Tokyo based architects and interior designers, Sinato, for clients Dream Studio, it is a 21st century eatery which reflects the needs of the neighborhood in which it is located.
The client specified that +green should be a venue which serves good food for your body and soul, based on the premise that ‘you are what you eat’. The designers chose to place the restaurant area 1.61m below ground level to take advantage of the height of the three level building, in order to improve the layout of the three activities. Neither in traditional nor modern Japanese style, the simplistic elegance of the interior, has been achieved by the choice of neutral muted shades and the contrasts of white painted raw concrete and exposed brick walls. Plants have been placed throughout to remind customers of the eco-connection of the venue. Wooden dividers and partitions create intimate dining areas and mirror the urban life-style.
The Take Away section and Health Food Store are on the street level to attract passers-by. The identity of the space does not impose itself on the residential area but rather becomes integrated within it.
