The architectural firm Studionoh was commissioned to design a space where yoga classes would take place. For the completion of the project, certain specific requirements should be fulfilled.
It was essential to create a space where various yoga practices could be taught, such as Hatha and Asana yoga, along with other techniques such as Bikram that can only be taught within a strongly heated environment, i.e. in a specific temperature of 38 C and humidity of 70%.
Moreover, the privacy of the space where the lessons would be taught had to be ensured, in relation to the exterior.
The studio unfolds in one single level which consists of the reception area, the main room where the courses are taught, the massage rooms and the locker rooms.
Focusing on the inside of the space, rather than the exterior of the building, aims to encourage meditation, the primary yoga principle. For this purpose, only two materials were used: wood on all floors and white plaster on walls.
Finally, the white sunshade of the façade, a complex construction of ceramic shades and vertical planting of native herbs, adds to the basic materials used. The sunshade protects the inside of the studio by filtering the light and noise of the city and symbolizes the union (yoga) of the soul with God.
