Do you think it's possible to fall in love with something lifeless? Well, imagine this. Smoldering hills, volcanic beaches and kiss-inspiring sunsets, as the whole sky turns pink, while the sun slowly sinks into the ocean’s rim… So, when it comes to Santorini, the answer is yes, I think it just might be possible!
The Tango Bar in Santorini is a redesign project undertaken by Stamos Hondrodimos of Interior Design Laboratorium. Visitors to this breathtaking Aegean island cannot help but be moved by a powerful sense of calmness and tranquility when confronted by the magnificent scene of the Caldera, its uninterrupted views and its hidden mystery of the volcano which lies beneath the surface.
It is this magical quality of the island which inspired the designer to create a haven of relaxation in the indoor and outdoor spaces of Tango Bar. The interior reflects the traditional architecture of the island, arched cave like spaces and built in sofas hewn from the volcanic rock. The neutral color palette contrasts with the organic elements of the space, low tables of resourced timber, an exotic covering of the bar area in Madagascar straw and a large piece of local black rock suspended dramatically in an low lit alcove, creating a note of sculptural interest.
An innovative design project which has utilized the heritage and ambience of the island to create a sophisticated minimal space in which visitors can experience the mesmerizing spirit of Santorini and its jawdropping scenery…
