Brooklyn based collaborative Snarkitecture, founded by young designers Daniel Archan and Alex Mustonen, claim their work to be midway between art and architecture. They are responsible for the Drift Pavilion at the entrance of the 8th annual Design Miami which is visible from several blocks away and guides visitors towards the week-long event.
Comprised of air filled white vinyl tubes gathered to form an inverted landscape, it is suspended from the roof of the entrance tent and above a cavern like space with inflated seating. This interactive installation invites visitors to sit in the shaded space through which openings show the blue Miami sky and palm trees. A space of rest and contemplation, a quiet respite before entering the exhibition with the wide variety of projects from the like of Zaha Hadid, OMA, Herzog and many more!
The designers enjoy the challenge of using a pre-existing material, in this case white vinyl, and using it to create an alternative dimension, their intention is to ‘make architecture perform the unexpected.’
