The popular Josefine/ Roxy Club in Savassi, SE Brazil, was built and designed in 2007 by DJ/architect, Fred Mafra. Four years later, the club was redesigned by Mafra and reopened with a new identity.
The interior is a mass of geometric shapes, triangles and hexagons in luminous colours. The asymmetrical lines of the bar and the honeycombed domed ceiling, all together with brightly coloured LED lights create a psychedelic mood for this upmarket venue.
The club has a wealth of space, 955 sq.m. in all, divided amongst its 2 dance floors, three bars and 4 VIP areas, with an option to link them to create one enormous VIP space. A smoking area and a retractable roof is provided, and all of this with wheelchair access.
The exterior is equally impressive with an imposing facade made of LCD panels. Fred Mafra feels that he is fortunate to have been in a position to redesign the club and says: ‘Reforming your own project brings you a special freedom that comes from mastering the space you are already working with, plus from the confidence of being the owner in your work.’
