This gigantic installation occupies three walls of an exhibition pavilion of the Hyundai Motor Group in Korea. It was created by media arts collective Jonpasang, on behalf of Hyundai as part of the EXPO 2012 exhibition. It is quite usual for Korean companies to attract the attention of consumers in a spectacular manner which in no way relates to their product.
The installation is composed of thousands of 30 x 30 cm lightweight styrofoam cubes, mounted on a steel frame. Small pistons behind each cube allow countless combinations of patterns as the connecting computer program controls the movement. The program also responds to sound and to a video projection on the walls.
The resulting mesmerising performance is a tribute not only to artistic expression but also to the precision engineering which has gone into the project, which took two months to complete.
