Ett Hem was a private residence built in 1910. The people who built it had a propensity for beauty, and they left their mark on this townhouse, situated in a peaceful, residential area of Stockholm. This Arts and Crafts building is a tranquil home away from home, steeped in the Scandinavian aesthetics where functionality meets beauty.
The success in intricately transforming the house into a hotel, whilst still retaining the individuality and personality of the original, is a testament to the tenaciousness of interior designer Ilse Crawford who has been involved in the project since the start.
Transforming the house into a hotel has been an incredibly delicate process: owner Jeanette Mix wanted to retain its personality but it also had to offer all the services required by modern travellers. The result is that Ett Hem is again a happy house filled with the best collection of furniture, Scandinavian antiques and design.
With twelve rooms, Ett Hem offers discerning guests comfortable interiors and bedrooms full of summery whiteness of light. Outdoors, the courtyard garden is a secret city wilderness that is the perfect place for summer breakfasts or winding down in the evening over a chilled bottle of wine.
Ett Hem is not the usual hotel. Ett hem is a place where guests are treated as friends of the family, a place that allows guests to become part of it and feel at home.
Ilse Crawford is a designer, academic and creative director with a simple mission to put human needs and desires at the centre of all that she does. As founder of Studioilse, together with her multi-disciplinary, London-based team, she brings her philosophy to life. This means creating environments where humans feel comfortable; public spaces that make people feel at home and homes that are habitable and make sense for the people who live in them. It means designing furniture and products that support and enhance human behaviour and actions in everyday life. It means restoring the human balance in brands and businesses that have lost their way. As founder of the department of Man and Wellbeing at the Design Academy Eindhoven, her mission extends to nurturing a new generation of students to always question why and how their work improves the reality of life.
