The Ambassador’s Residence house two functions: representational and private. On the relatively large site in the 2nd Diplomatic District, we conceived a single-storey building with two wings. Hence the domestic character of the ‘home’ doesn’t suffer from the professional/representational function
The main expression of the design is dominated by the elongated wall of Mongolian granite and the cantilevered roof. The south- and west facades offer a view to the garden, designed as a ‘dry river’. The winter garden provides year-round green in the harsh climate of Beijing.
