Recently shown in New York, the Donna Karan Runway Collection Fall 2013 is a glorious range of garments which takes the urban female effortlessly from day to evening. In a basic colour palette of black, grey and warm brown, with just a hint of camel, Donna Karan maintains her status of knowing how to dress the woman of today, in a collection which she calls: ‘sensual, soulful, sculptured.
Body hugging dresses in silk jersey with panels of satin and leather, cut out transparencies, embroidered bodices, wrap around skirts in asymmetrical lines, some structured skirts and skinny pants, were all worn with her signature item of the collection - capes. Some simply framing the shoulders on tailored suits, others as a detail on a dress and many glorious, dramatic and flowing, adding a dash of drama and sophistication to any event.
Her generous double breasted coat with softly rounded shoulders in cashmere, wool and neoprene blend was presented in classic camel, will certainly become a wardrobe staple for the DK follower. Furs were seen throughout the collection, as chunky cowl collars, bags and muffs, in a collection which lives up to its title and the Donna Karan image of a woman who designs for women.
