Tomas Maier presented his Fall 2013 RTW collection for the house of Bottega Veneta during Milan’s Fashion Week. The classic well cut garments brought to mind the New Look of the late 40s and early 50s, below the knee lengths in swinging skirts and wide shouldered jackets with nipped in, belted waists. A basic color palette of black, white and red dominated the show with the odd appearance of warm ochre and saffron shades.
Coats, suits and dresses in contrasting fabrics and textures of wool, leather and satin, asymmetrical lines, folds and split skirts. The evening/cocktail wear saw the continuing trend of the LBD, always a fashion staple in whatever form. Each piece excelled in its execution and the silhouette ruled without the need for excessive adornment with embellishments.
Ribbons created interesting patterns on transparencies, cropped and skinny pants contrasted with fuller skirts or fitted tops and were evident from morning to late night styles. Bags were hand held and boxy or clutch, shoes in general were chunky and built up in a short boot mode. A highly wearable collection with a retro urban vibe, always acceptable to the young woman about town.
