Designed by PRODUCE, this 100 square meter loft in Novena, Singapore, was created specifically for its owner, Woon Tai Ho, an art collector, critic, author, and Director for Media and Marketing of the National Gallery Singapore. The space had to suit the owner, a distinguished gentleman, and needed to reflect his character and express his life, based on the art he loves.
Taking a look at the art he collects, more specifically, Jane Lee and Han Sai Por, PRODUCE chose to focus on the essence of their work and came up with the idea to use a single object, a monoform. The monoform is one single, cage-like piece of furniture that connects all aspects of the loft and supports Woon’s style of living.
The structure acts as a bookshelf, a wardrobe, a table, a wine rack, and most importantly, a sculpture. The thin, steel rods show up in each space in the apartment, unifying the design. The concrete sink is suspended by the monoform over the staircase, making use of every square inch of the space.
As Woon said: I am tired of using artworks to show that I love art. I want to live in a space that is itself a piece of art.
