Anish Kapoor, one of the most influential artists of his generation, presents his latest solo exhibition at the Lisson Gallery, a prominent space with which he has had an ongoing professional collaboration over the past 30 years. This is a celebratory event between the artist and the gallery to mark the significant 30 year milestone which the artist acknowledges through the introduction of a previously unseen experimental aspect in pieces of his work.
In particular, he presents a darkened room in which pulses of infrasonic sound, below the audial level of human hearing, are felt in various parts of the body as a form of vibration in the visitors’ bones as they walk through the installation.The feeling of unease felt by the visitors is exactly what the artist intended, a transient sense of discomfort ensures that the piece will not be forgotten!
His signature organic sculptural forms continue with table, floor and wall mounted pieces but in smaller forms some of which draw a parallel between organic based and mechanical objects. A diverse selection of new and classic Kapoor occupies both rooms of the gallery and culminates in his huge corten steel sculpture in the yard. The exhibition runs through to November 10th, 2012.
