In the Lotte Department store in Seoul, South Korea, visitors to the in-store food court of the Lotte Department store are confronted with a unique environment which differs greatly from the average eatery. The Amoje Food Capital is a design project of the practice of Karim Rashid who has created a futuristic scene of curving forms which all work together in this amazing space.

Sweeping columns which are part of the ceiling descend to become petal shaped tables for communal dining, a continuity of style through a range of ‘techorganic’ forms. Visitors are immersed in a sensory experience of swirling shapes as colours and patterns interact and appear to have a will of their own. The serving counters are efficiently situated around the perimeter of the food court as cut out spaces in the surrounding walls.

The centrally positioned round pods contain the cash points and other functional elements of the space and guide the diners towards the choice of table groupings and seating options in fun playful colours. This is a space designed for communication, a controversial option which invites comment on its glossy sculptural forms whilst enjoying a dining experience with a difference.
