The relationship between Dior and French artist and designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance began in 2019, with the aim of narrating Christian Dior’s fashion heritage through different arts and crafts as well. Each piece created thus represents a true work of art, capable of drawing its narrative strength from the sensitivity of the hands that make it, as well as from the cultural, social, and natural context in which it is embedded. On this occasion, the new Corolle lamp is presented, a major tribute to the spirit of Dior’s New Look.
This lighting piece brings together artisanal excellence, aesthetic lightness, creative innocence, and bold spirit: all founding values of a unique heritage. The lamp’s curves, created through extraordinary handcrafting, recall the lines of the iconic corolla skirts. The silhouettes of Christian Dior’s first 1947 collection, aptly named Corolle, highlighted both simplicity and virtuosity, elegance and innovation.
The lamps are made of mouth-blown glass following the ancient traditions of Murano, in Venice. Within each creation, savoir-faire hovers suspended; the craftsmanship is unique and varied, and creative flair blends with artisanal skill. All the processes are inspired by the movement of fabrics, echoing folds and drapery, so that the structure of the lamps appears elastic, refined, and light. The light radiating from within creates unique movements and nuances, in a truly remarkable play of transparencies, reflections, and shadows. The lamps are presented in different sizes, both table and portable versions, and each piece features the emblematic colours of the Parisian couturier: grey, pink, and white. The details are refined, and the initials CD are engraved on the handle.
The second major tribute of the project is dedicated to Christian Dior’s passion for the enchanting beauty of nature. The walls of the space are entirely covered with a bucolic installation made of madake bamboo fibre, which is first cut and then refined into regular strips, ready to be worked and woven into various compositions. It is meticulously woven to form a bell shape with patterns reminiscent of cannage, the Maison’s signature code.
In this sublime dance between glass and bamboo, between matter and light, light ceases to be a merely functional element and becomes a poetic substance, an invisible thread that embroiders the atmosphere with the same precision as a stitch. Each creation vibrates with its own soul. It is a tribute to the patience of gesture, to the waiting that precedes perfection, where elegance is never shouted but whispered through the reflections of crystal or the skilful interweaving of bamboo. Like an archival garment coming to life on the body, these lamps dress the space in a vibrant aura, celebrating that dream of eternal beauty that Christian Dior has always pursued. They are not just objects, but fragments of everyday enchantment: works that transform any environment into a runway of creations and emotions, where the present is illuminated by the timeless splendour of a contemporary myth.
