The Rotor Digital Camera designed by Charlie Nghiem is one of the most beautiful cameras I have seen lately, very simple but with unparallel style. Below you will find what Charlie Nghiem has to say about this very interesting project!
"I designed this camera because I noticed that people around me who use digital cameras are quickly overwhelmed by the presence of many buttons that lead to the minuet becomes menu’ 'I therefore tried to address this problem by asking me how I could synthesize all of these functions while remaining consistent with the interface of the screen.
From the ergonomic point of view, I initially tried to understand the movements of the hand and fingers, positioning and placement. All of this reasoning led me a more radical design, so as to create a spine that would bring together all the key information necessary for optimal use. The column consists of several cylinders stacked on top of each other forming a set that I would fit into the camera.
To access the features and menus, just drag the thumb on the cylinder are in order to rotate each function. Each cylinder would correspond to a line displayed on the screen.
At this point, I developed the concept as a whole; I tried to open a new way to use this camera. There are not all the details. The idea is to «slide» and then press the dial button to confirm the function chosen. I have not integrated a touch panel screen, I bet at the moment an interface "physical" more synthetic products that can be found on the market. The project is interesting insofar as it raises many questions and may be the questioning of current physical interfaces."
