The presentation of the fall 2011 collection of Threeasfour was, as expected, an unconventional one. Designers, Adi, Ange and Gabi habitually surprise us with their idiosyncratic methods. Unfortunately the lighting or lack of it, for this show, didn’t allow the audience to fully appreciate the creations. What was understood from the clothes, seen at intervals through the moments of visibility due to the flashing lights, was that the inspiration for the designs is music and musical instruments.
Halter-neck dresses fretted like harp strings, embroidered spirograph designs, some silk and nylon blends, flounces of pleated horse-hair winding around skirts in an organic fashion. Accessories, which are intended to go on sale, assembled from old violins, completed the music theme of the empirical section of the collection. There is an incredibly commercial feel to some of the more familiar pieces in the collection, namely the curved, quilted coats and jackets, leather pants and leggings, draped jumpsuits and dresses in a graphic wool pinstripe suiting.
