Kobi Levi has been designing footwear in collaboration with a variety of manufacturers, both local and international, since his graduation from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem in 2001.
The idiosyncrasy of his latest collection take shoes to a different level, a hybrid of footwear and sculpture which would be equally at home in a shoe cabinet or an art gallery, he treats shoes as his canvas, thus his shoes are double purpose, to be appreciated as a work of art or as a wearable accessory.
His surrealist designs begin as an idea, a concept, usually humorous, from a playground to a pop idol, his imagination is infinite. The next stage is to overcome the technical difficulties inherent in producing a wearable item from from an abstract idea. This young artisan then crafts each part of his prototype shoe by hand in his studio in order to establish that his idea is feasible in the practical sense. Kobi Levi is without doubt an artist with a unique point of view about footwear who succeeds in blurring the line between shoes and art.
