Croatian-born, German-raised designer Damir Doma, grew up in a family of creatives. He studied fashion in Munich and Berlin, and the spent 2,5 years in Antwerp, where he worked under the guidance of Raf Simons and Dirk Schoenberger. Developing his individual aesthetics, Damir Doma has an artistic approach to fashion and is influenced by Japanese designers, such as Yamamoto and Miyake. His voluminous yet ethereal designs are characterized by layered garments, sheered fabrics and draped silhouettes inspired by subtle fluidity and emotion.
Damir Doma has managed to successfully position avant-garde fashion into the market. In his latest installation “White Desert” for the Arnhem Mode Bienalle 10 mannequins wearing pieces from the FW 2011 are posed in a dessert hill made of hundreds salt crystals. A short film is projected across the silhouettes, further exploring Damir’s minimal yet organic vision for the season through abstract representations of desert sands and architectural forms.
