The Colonia Designer Edition for Aqua di Parma is a limited edition of the iconic eau de cologne in a bottle designed by noted Milanese architect/designer, Luca Scacchetti. The inspiration for the 3-D design of black concentric circles on the yellow bottle came from the apparently melting figures in the art of Dali and the figures encircling Greek urns.
Together with the final product, the designer has produced a stunning collection of watercolours illustrating his thought process during the various stages of the design. After using computers in the past, Scacchetti has reverted to watercolours for the early stages of his designs. He was especially delighted when, 2 years ago, he was asked to collaborate in this project as it gave him the opportunity to step out of his comfort zone and allow his imagination to run free and design on an emotional level. The only stipulation by the company was that the bottle must be yellow, otherwise, he had a free hand.
Being more accustomed to designing buildings, interiors and furniture, this is the first time Scacchitti has worked on such a project. As a designer he decries the idea of having a signature design and believes each project should be entirely original.
The Colonia Designer Edition for Aqua di Parma will be available for 104 pounds (180ml) from Harrods, London and selected stores worldwide, from the end of September.
