Dynamic French design duo Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec collaborated with leading Danish Textile company, Kvadrat this London Design Festival, creating ‘Textile Field’ presented in the Raphael Gallery of the Victoria & Albert Museum, the largest and most prestigious space in the building, and is on display until October 29.
The expansive installation measures 30 meters long and 8 meters wide, is made of coloured foam and stripy textile fabric. When visiting, the undulating fabric of Textile Field created a sensual environment to lounge upon, encouraging its visitors to lie down and engage with the surrounding gallery space.
Designers and brothers, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, known for their numerous designs for leading manufacturers like Vitra, Established & Sons, Issey Miyake, Cappellini and Flos to name a few, have been working together for around ten years, and are known for their almost poetically functional work and their capability to introduce new interpretations of space. For Textile Field, their intentions were to create a comfortable yet dynamic environment and take time to consider the gallery surroundings that contains important examples of Renaissance art. “We wanted to propose a different approach to freely experience what can be quite an intimiating environment, such as a museum. A laid-back context to favour contemplation” states Erwan Bouroullec.
