Converse has just released a limited edition Fall/Winter Oscar Niemeyer Collection of Converse shoes. The collection reflects the beliefs and passions of one of the greatest pioneers of modern architecture, Oscar Niemeyer, interpreted in the designs on the Converse classics.
The five styles of the range contain references inspired by a poem of the architect and his non-linear design ethos. We can see his “sensuous curve” in the red lined trim of a shoe, and quotes from the poem, written in his own handwriting, on others. In the black edging of the Chuck Taylor All Star Chukka boot, a political message against torture and an illustration on the lining refers to the Landless Worker’s Movement in Brazil.
Forever controversial, the 104 year old artist is never superficial in his collaborations and always manages to transfer his love of his country and its people within the medium of his contemporary designs.
