The RAD e-bicycle concept was designed by Opel in collaboration with the design and brand consulting firm, Kiska, and introduced at the Geneva Motor show this year. Opel, who began life as bicycle manufacturers, predict that urban e-bikes are set to play an increasing role in future integrated urban transport concepts.
The RAD, meaning bike or wheel in German, is the successor of the RAK and Ampera models and follows similar design features. The ‘boomerang’ body frame is of hollow pressed steel, its fully enclosed pedal assisted drive is a 250 watt motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery providing a range of between 60 and 140 kilometers, depending on terrain, at speeds of up to 20 kph. The Flexfix bicycle carrier is a compatible carrying system allowing a two and a half hour recharge time in transit.
This environmentally friendly urban transportation option is a vision of the future which OPEL will put into production in the near future and in every way complies with their design philosophy of ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision.’
