In the gardens of the Buckinghamshire stately home of Waddesdon Manor, international light artist Bruce Munro has created two magical light installations, Blue Moon on a Platter and Angel of Light.
Spread out over the hillocks of the manicured lawn are thousands of used CDs covering a diameter of 28 metres. In the centre the artist has placed a 1,5 metre globe or ‘moon’ filled with smaller spheres containing coiled fibre optics which transmit light via a metal halide projector, illuminating the shimmering surfaces of the CDs.
The inspiration for the second installation, Angel of Light, came about while Munro was listening to a piece by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rantavaarg. He decided to create a time lapse image of a huge halo of 50.000 CDs which he assembled on the front lawn of the house. The installations are the latest work of the impressive portfolio of the celebrated artist with previous event venues including the V&A in London, The Guggenheim in New York and the Eden Project in Cornwall. The Christmas Installations at Waddesdon Manor will be open to the public until January 1st, 2013.
