Berlin-based Polish artist Monika Grzymala may begin her thought processes with pencil and paper but her dynamic installations challenge our perceptions of simple line drawings. In her series of on-site installations entitled Raumzeichnungen or Drawing Spatially, her sculptural pieces appear to emerge as organic entities from the surface of a wall before becoming taking on a life of their own and energetically launching themselves at an opposite surface.
The 3D ‘line drawings’ are constructed entirely of different types of tapes which the artist brilliantly transforms into explosive installations. An exhibition of the collection was hosted at the Hamburger Kunsthalle in August 2013 and can be viewed in locations around the USA from November 2013 through 2014.
