This series of photographs entitled, Flying Houses by award winning photographer, Laurent Chehere, was shown at the Biennale des Creatures d’images in June of this year. The Paris based artist began his career in advertising but after undertaking extensive world travel, which he combined with his hobby of photography, he decided that his passion would become his profession.
The surrealistic images of 19th and 20th century Parisian homes are depicted as though they are floating in the sky against a backdrop of clouds, free from the usual earthly restraints. These balloon like images allow us to examine the houses, from the most humble to the more grand, without distractions of nearby objects or surroundings.
The digital manipulation of the photographs could be a metaphor for travel, very often an enjoyable experience and at other times, spoilt by circumstances beyond our control. This exhibition encompasses the loves of the photographer, travel, architecture and of course, photography.
