This private residence is located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Coconut Grove, within a semi-protected area of rich and lush vegetation. The brief from the client was to realize a modern architecture that would establish a continuous dialogue with the surrounding nature whilst meeting the diverse needs of the family.
The villa is accessed via a pathway immersed in the luxuriant greenery typical of the area, and is composed of two different volumes connected by an aerial walkway, the larger for family use and the smaller for guests.
The elemental forms of the design draw inspiration from traditional tropical houses and modernist architecture. The structural core is surrounded by terraces and cantilevered canopies: thin concrete “sheets” that form a void beneath, amplifying the effect of lightness and making the volumes appear as if suspended. Both pavilions are distinguished by the alternation of white concrete, large windows and wood brise-soleil that temper the light that also radiates in through the two patios that open towards the sky.
