ZUO Corp. is a clothing brand created in 2010 by Dagmara Rosa, Bartek Michalec and Lukasz Laskowski. The aim of the brand is to offer high quality garments at affordable prices. The collection is made out of Italian and German fabrics and sewed in Poland. Each piece is created in short series: from a few to several dozen of pieces. That guarantees a sense of uniqueness of the purchase. The brand offers clothing for men and women, accessories and an unisex sportswear line.
The Fall/Winter collection was inspired by the Maysles brothers’ document – “Grey Gardens” that was released in 1975. The movie presents a story of a toxic relationship between two cousins of Jackie Kennedy – the mother “Big Edie” Bouvier-Beal and her daughter – “Little Edie”. Both women come from the upper class of the New York City. Both had to cope with extreme poverty due to series of wrong life choices. As a result the once considered as the most beautiful residence in the United States (Grey Gardens) has started to become more and more neglected.
The collection presented at the 4th edition of Lodz Fashion Week is a tribute to the fashion of the 40’s, 50’s and the mass, cheap aesthetics of the 70’s (golden chains as belts and jewelry). The designers presented a revolutionary concept of using the polyurethane foam. The foam combined with wool enabled to present a number of futuristic silhouettes in contrast with feminine styles. Hewn shapes of coats and jackets model the figure and, at the same time, remain consistent with the principles of the brand – functionality and usability. The collection is dominated by navy blue, gray and black.
The main theme of the collection is a print designed by a young artist from Cracow – Robert Kuta. The print refers to the Oriental art and presents black fingers against orange hair. Printed on silk and used to produce well-fitting dresses and skirts creates a new, original quality.
In the Fall/Winter collection the brand introduced knitted products for the first time. Black dresses, blazers and skirts will enter the mass production combined with cinnabar and brown. The attention should be drawn to the combination of two different textures – soft mohair and wool.
During the fashion show the designers presented also their accessories. Silk and foam scarves were inspired by one of the main characters of the movie – “Little Edie”. As a result of a rare genetic disease – alopecia universalis – the woman has lost all of her hair. She had to cover her bald head with scarves for the rest of her life. All of them were fastened at the neck with a golden brooch.
The collection dedicated to a mass client will also include male silhouettes.
