Never a studio to shy away from the bold, Harry Nuriev and his talented band of collaborators at Crosby Studios can always be counted on to produce spaces that are engaging as they are welcoming. They welcome colour and pattern, mix materials and unite classic design furniture with more modern counterparts – sometimes even their own creations. This playful attitude to creation comes to the fore in their latest project, a Parisian-style apartment for New York living.
While the home’s title might be something of a misnomer (as it is located in New York, not Paris), the style it refers to is on full display in the foundations of the home – ornate ceiling roses and skirting boards, parquetry floors and arched doorways. These romantic base elements form an elegant foil to the modern design introductions Crosby Studios make, such as the marble and brass island bench, doors upholstered in a rich purple textile and numerous statement furniture and lighting additions, including the Tower Library shelving display designed by the studio itself.
The exuberance of the design is elevated in the colour palette of the home, where millennial pink, royal blue and striking deep purple are each given moments to shine. The distinctive Gubi Beetle chairs in royal blue work beautifully alongside the warm brass of the kitchen and dining space, while pink can be found in many of the spaces throughout the home – but most noticeably in the bathroom, where the hue seems to jump out against the strong monochrome lines.
The bold and textured style of this apartment might not be for the design faint-hearted, but the sense of play and joy that spills out across this home are irresistible to us here at est. There’s no doubt living in this home would be as dynamic and engaging as the city it is based in.
