A pre existing duplex penthouse in the Carl Fischer Building in Cooper Street, New York, was given a new lease of life through the expertise of CWS Architecture in collaboration with Lissoni Associati.
The entire 4.500 sq. ft. space was gutted and transformed into a bright, minimalist urban dwelling. Radical structural modifications and new materials were introduced beginning with the imposing cantilevered stone stairs which connect the levels, and in the flooring, which has been relaid with stone slabs. The bespoke nature of the project can be seen in the stone and wood burning fireplace and kitchen. The practical elements which have been improved and changed are the heating system, from steam heat to hot water radiant floor and a state of the art home automation system.
The renovation and redesign project carries on up to the rooftop terrace, upgraded by decking, stone dining table and BBQ. This inner city oasis is finalised by the addition of a retracting awning, hot tub and landscaping. This stunning turnkey project was undertaken in full by the collaborating architects and designers from the initial programming, to the design, execution and construction management.
