No stranger to the industry of fashion design, Ulises Merida has worked with a number of leading names in the field while developing a name for himself amongst his private clients. However, earlier this year, he made his public debut by presenting his first Pret-a-Porter collection for F/W 2013 at the Seagram’s Gin MF Show in Madrid, an alternative forum where emerging designers can display their talent.
The collection highlighted the straight silhouette with open backs, in the main cut from a single piece of fabric, which enveloped the body and acquired its form through a series of sashes, ties and belts. In a color palette of basic black with touches of nude and deep purple, we saw suits, skinny pants, flowing dresses and capes in a variety of textures and fabrics. Transparencies gave a peek of the inner garments, a shaggy Mongolian goat hair skirt and combinations of metallics, wool and leathers all came together in his unique approach on how to dress the urban woman.
