Designer Michiel Cornelissen was inspired by the icons of Russian folk art and more specifically by Matryoshka Dolls to create the 3D Mesh Matryoshkas for Dutch design publisher Soonsalon. According to the designer their shape invokes a host of meanings thus with Mesh Matryoshkas, Cornellissen wanted to add another layer of intrigue: how did one doll get inside the other?
Take a good look through the intricate wire mesh, and marvel at how 3d-printing allows us to create nested shapes like these. Mesh Matryoshkas were designed using Rhino and generative modelling plug-in Grasshopper.
Mesh Matryoshkas are available as necklaces in various sizes and colours, and as earrings. Just introduced at Maison & Objet in Paris, they are already available in many designstores around the world, including DesignTorget in Sweden and Fleux in Paris.
