Maggie’s is a UK charity founded by the late Maggie Keswick Jencks to provide all aspects of support for cancer sufferers and their families through the positive medium of art and design. Maggie believed that nobody should: ‘lose the joy of living in the fear of dying.’
Maggie’s and the second Joy of Living project were chosen by Designjunction as their charity fundraising mission of 2012. Around 100 leading international designers were approached and asked to donate an everyday product to the scheme, an item which represented the joy of living to them through their own design identity.
The resulting collection of design items and their uplifting messages were exhibited during London’s Fashion Week. Some were then auctioned, others were sold at a fixed price and whatever remained was raffled off to the enthusiastic crowd of visitors. A total of 15.000 pounds was raised to be used by the charity to provide extra comforts for the patients, a custom made room or an exquisite work of art which would raise the spirits and inspire positivity through its beauty.
