‘Joinery in Jewels’ is a collection by Octavia Xiaozi Yang created during her MA in Fashion Artifacts at the London College of Fashion following her enrollment there in 2011.
The extraordinary pieces are inspired by a 7000 year old Asian carpentry technique which involves the construction of homes and furniture without the need for pins, pegs or glue. The synchronization and balance of parts which can come together in perfect harmony to make a whole. The spirit of Yin and Yang, the male and the female, which co-exist in nature, one incomplete without the other are present in the jewellery of Ms Yang.
The elements of 3D print and laser cutting together with the artisan skill of the silversmith are combined in the production of the pieces. Each item is composed of removable parts for repair or customization according to taste, shape or colour, versatile in their ability to follow trends.
