These unique ceramic speakers were designed by Nendo of Japan in alliance with Mitsuke Masagasu, a potter whose work follows the traditions of Kutani ware. The design team were inspired by the Revalue Nippon Project, instigated by ex Japanese footballer, Nakata Hidetoshi, whose dream it was to revitalize traditional crafts in Japan.

The result is a set of 1mm thick audio speakers which combine modern technology and the use of complex digital manufacturing techniques together with the beautiful harmonious lines of Mitsuke’s red-glaze designs on a ceramic base. The manufacturing process was executed in its entirety by robotics without the physical intervention of the human hand. Another original aspect is the fact that the decorative facade of the units is also the functional and the final product may be a new art form, perhaps the first in a new genre.
