On a 4.000 sq.m. plot in Sikkim, Southern India, a private complex of three independent houses was constructed with amid luxuriant grasslands, tropical plants and trees. The contemporary homes were designed by the international architecture practice of Mancini, who are based in Sikkim. Although the complex was constructed by local craftsmen in the traditional methods of the region, technology was employed on the infrastructure in order to aid sustainability and provide every comfort for the occupants.
Picture windows connect the interior with the surrounding gardens and all homes enjoy a view of the distant holy mountain while preserving the privacy of the residents. A roof garden connects the levels of the homes. Pavilions and a large pool provide a common gathering space and pre-existing rocks lead down into a sunken garden built around a deep well, features which define its cultural roots.
The complex is an enviable oasis, a get away from it all destination in the beautiful rural landscape of Southern India.
