Neither a showroom nor a store, the new offline destination for the well known online home furnishing site, Made.com, was designed by the London based firm of Bureau de Change Design Office, as an experimental project to bridge the gap between .com and retail, the opening of which coincided with the London Design Festival.
On entering the lobby of the high rise in West London’s Notting Hill Gate, alongside the offices of Made.com, the customer has the opportunity to familiarise himself with the 3D version of the latest online products by means of several hundred miniatures suspended from the ceiling, in preparation of what to expect in a generous space of 400 sq.m. on the 9th floor of the building.
The 360 degree view of the London skyline is a definitive feature of the space, which is separated into specific departments by means of suspended translucent screens in order to highlight each category of product both as a 3D miniature and a 2D picture with full description printed on the rear of each screen.
Technological aids have not been omitted in the studio like space, QR codes, touch screens and 3D scanners all work together with more conventional fabric swatches and measuring devices. The best of both worlds await the customer who may be familiar with the online product but will now have the ability to have a hands on experience.
