Designed by the practice of Jesus Davila Architects, Great-Grand Parents House in Mexico is a project intended to house an elderly couple. In spite of the small site and a limited budget of just $45.000, the architects created a 73 sq.m. home, which would suit the lifestyle of the occupants.

The single level structure is partially enclosed in its concrete shell but with a high glass facade which faces a small garden, in order to take advantage of the morning sunlight. The garden is visible from the bedroom, a space carefully designed to provide an en-suite bathroom and dressing room as an enclosed ‘room within a room’ concept, this offers the convenience of a garden view with the essential privacy factor. The living room and dining room are in a single space which also overlooks the garden, with a nearby small bathroom and separate enclosed kitchen.

The dark walls are brightened by the cheerful colors of the fittings in a simple contemporary space which exhibits many aspects of easy maintenance and functionality. This was a project which demanded a level of sensitivity within its execution as a home which would enhance the lifestyle and comfort of a couple in their ‘golden years’.
