The stunningly simple Fredensborg House, built on a sloping site just outside Copenhagen, Denmark, is one of the latest projects by NORM Architects of Copenhagen.

A wide central staircase leads up the three levels on which the house is built. The dining area is to be found on the lower level where the glass facade overlooks the garden. The next level is the living area and the centrally located kitchen. Although open-plan, low partitions prevent the kitchen being visible from the other areas. Various formats have been employed for the windows throughout the building including an impressive 18m vertical window ensuring that natural light enters each floor.

The use of local material for this project creates a harmonious continuity with no clashing of forms or colours. Raw grey brick walls, brushed natural oak floors and white ceilings fulfil the designer’s intention of creating a serene, calm environment.

The contemporary style of furniture in basic black and white has been chosen for this house, typifying the best in Nordic design.
