A collaboration between the German brand Classicon and London based designer Benjamin Hubert resulted in the Membrane armchair, which was recently launched at the 2013 Salone del Mobile in Milan. The lightweight, almost transparent chair goes against everything that we imagine a conventional chair should be with its solid mass and foam filled cushions.
In spite of this, the Membrane chair is a great alternative with its light airy feel and high design contemporary presence, it lacks nothing in comfort but adds a great deal in convenience. It is created from a 3D woven fabric stretched over a lacquered steel and aluminium tubular base. The process resulted from extensive experimentation with the design of tents with their inherent resilience and instant portability.
Weighing a mere 6 kg. the piece may be moved from room to room at will to cope with any emergency seating needs. Available in a neutral off white, grey and red with a contrasting coloured framework, it would make a wonderful design statement to any space in the home!
