When designing this contemporary family residence in Kifissia, a northern suburb of Athens, the architects SPACELAB had to contend with an irregular shaped triangular site on the corner of a busy street. To deal with this and in order to ensure a generous sized garden, the L shaped house was situated at the very edge of the site, fortunately permissible at that time by the town planners.

The two floor structure of 190 sqm. is faced in metal frames and wooden slats and the noise element of traffic noise has been dealt with through the placing of vertical metal framed fencing with the addition of the sound insulation feature of reinforced glass. In the interior, the ground floor is shared by the living room, dining room and kitchen. Large floor to ceiling windows lead out into the garden, an outdoor living space essential for the warm summer evenings in Athens. The bedrooms and bathrooms are on the upper levels, here smaller windows ensure privacy for the family.

Wood plays a major role in the interior of the house, oak flooring, black pine cabinets, antiquated oak for the kitchen cabinets and lacquered oak for the staircase. Finally the introduction of the well chosen pieces of contemporary furniture and light fittings complete this beautiful family home.
