There are so many things to applaud about the newly opened The One Barcelona. For starters, its location on the city’s Ciutat Comtal, within striking distance of the historic Passeig de Gracia and La Pedrera, is peerless. Second, are the handsome interiors by designer Jaime Beriestain, who has renovated a chamfered pile with a chic palette of copper, stone and glass.

Each of the 89 rooms is a white canvas furnished with both cool pastel and warm hues, and copper lines that form pleasing panelled grids, alongside an original piece by the artist Fernando Prats. Indeed, no one could ever accuse the hotel of cutting corners, not when there’s Jordanian and Serpeggiante marble, oak floors in various hues, and 18-carat gold taps on show. Beriestain pulls double duty with his own customised furniture, though there are also pieces by Antonio Citterio and Ray and Charles Eames to be spotted.

Downstairs in the Somni Restaurant & Cocteleria, chef Miguel Muñoz mines the Mediterranean to turn out creamed sweet potato paired with caramelised chestnuts, and sticky rice studded with artichokes and orange chanterelle mushrooms. The good life is best celebrated on the rooftop for its ocean views, or a quick session in the solarium or the plunge pool.
