The Museo Parc Alesia is a project undertaken by New York based firm, Bernard Tschumi Architects. Located in the heart of Burgundy, France, it is on the site of a battle between Julius Ceasar and the Gauls in the year of 52 B.C.
Although the two structures, a museum and a visitors centre, have been erected a kilometre apart, they are very much part of each other and of the venue as a whole. The cylindrical visitors centre has been clad in wood to resemble a Roman fortress of the past. There is a roof garden and observation deck where visitors may look over the reconstructed battlements, the lush countryside and the medieval buildings in the town of Alise-Sainte-Reine. The tree planted roof garden follows the concept of non-intrusive architecture which allows the building to be almost invisible from the town above.
